How To Recover Your Hair From Hair Loss & Breakage

Cutting your hair:
Take the opportunity to get a really good haircut beyond just a basic trim and even it all out. In most cases you will need to remove has much dead and damaged hair as possible. (It’s ok! Your hair will grow back and the more dead and damaged hair removed, the faster healthy hair can grow back.)

Don’t be a sucker and buy into all the hair care products that promise to mend split ends or damaged hair. They don’t work, the hair will still be damaged.

Give your hair a vacation:
Avoid using brushes on your hair for awhile. Just use your fingers to comb it down and smooth it out with your hands.

Also, avoid all heating tools for awhile too. Let your hair air dry and don’t even think of touching an iron of any sorts to your hair for a few weeks. If you want to style your hair or add big beautiful curls try curling your hair with no heat methods such as the video demonstration below in which the woman is doing bantu knots which is a way to curl your hair with no heat.

Moisturize your hair:
Moisturize your hair with a good product. When you moisturize your hair you will prevent breakage. One recommendation is BB Oil Moisturizer. It is a really good product because it has castor oil, coconut oil, aloe and canola oils in it to help maximize moisture.

Wear loose hairstyles:

Dream Catchers does offer clip-in hair extensions that are more affordable than her salon applied extensions at Sally Beauty for only $40.00 but they do not get good reviews. #1 – Fish Tail Braided Hair Style

This Fish Tail Braided hair extensions look is our absolute favorite look. It’s ideal for hair styles that already have sew in extensions, weave or netted weave.

This style can easily be recreated in just minutes. Start by taking a rattail comb and sectioning off the part on the top of the head. Your sectioning should line up just at the highest point in your eyebrow arch. Separate the remaining hair with a clip to keep it out of the way. Then take your top section and create a Goddess braid so that it follows the hair line and comes down behind the left ear. Pin the tail of the Goddess braid tucked under some hair. Gather the remaining hair you sectioned off and create a low fish tail braid. Close the end of the fish tail with a hair band that matches the hair color. For finishing touches you can wrap a braided hair extension piece around the band to conceal the band.

#5 – Box Braids With Curly Hair Extensions

Box braids are extremely popular for little girls. You don’t see them on adults very often and we can’t understand why when they can really make a hair style look classy in an up-do fashion.

Here is another example of braided hair extensions using the box braid method.

Depending on your weave you should wash it at least once a week. This varies form person to person though.  Sometimes you will need to wash a black hair weave 2-3 times a week and for some people they may only need to wash their weave once every two weeks.

Wash and Conditioning A Straight Black Hair Weave

1.) Take a wide width comb and gently comb through the weave to loosen any knots or tangles

2.) Get a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Our recommendations for the best shampoo and conditioners for weaves is DHD H20 Shampoo and Moisture Conditioner.

3.) Wash the weave starting from top to bottom by gently massaging the shampoo into the weave

4.) Don’t neglect your real hair underneath the weave! Be sure to wash and condition your hair underneath. You can easily do this by mixing some shampoo into a cup or even better an applicator bottle,  with water and then pouring the mixture directly into the braids/hair underneath (between the tracks) and  rinse well. Follow up with a conditioner in another applicator mixed with water and conditioner as well. Rinse the conditioner throughout.

5.) Next condition the weave and leave the conditioner sitting on the weave for at least 3 minutes. This allows the conditioning agents to go to work and soften the hair. Rinse out the conditioner thoroughly.

6.) Don’t forget to wash and condition your “leave out” section of real hair if you have it on the very top of your head.

7.) After you step out of the shower gently towel dry the hair by blotting it. To blot, you will take the towel and hang it in your hands  and gently close your hands into a section of your hair and gently press your hands together then open and move your hands down a few inches on the same section of hair and press again. Do this down the section of hair.

Cold Wash – Recommended For A Wavy Or Curly Black Hair Weave

This method utilizes only a conditioner and no shampoo what so ever. This is also done by washing your hair in a sink and you use cold water.

1.) First you will wet the hair. Do not comb dry wavy or curly black hair weaves since this will only cause frizz and a matted mess.

2.) Apply a moisturizing conditioner and comb through the weave using a wide tooth comb. Start by holding the ends of your hair and combing the ends first while working your way up a section of hair. This helps loosen up any tangles.

3.) Rinse the hair with cold water

4.) Towel dry the hair and scrunch the hair using a towel to remove excess water. This also prevents frizz and tangles.

5.) You will want to moisturize the weave’s curls and prevent frizz by using a product such as Generic’s Silk Remedy. (Available at Sally Beauty).

6.) Add a curling cream. Use a dollop of the cream and run it through the weave using your fingers.

7.) Scrunch the hair by cupping the ends of your hair in your hand and push your hand and the hair ends up  towards your scalp. Let the hair air dry.

Supplies

• Hair scissors
• Dark sewing thread
• Curved sewing needle
• A small hair clip
• Remi human black hair weave tracks of your choice
• Flat iron

Preparing For Black Hair Weaves

1.) Divide the front part of your hair where your bangs would be and just make them temporary braids or “leave out” pieces. You’ll want to leave these sections out of the weave but for now they are braided just to keep them out of the way.

2.) Next you will need to braid your hair straight back from front to back so that you have created corn rows. If you cannot braid your own help, get some help from a family member or friend to help you.

3.) Once your hair is braided secure the ends of the braids down with the tail and then sew the tail down flat.

Sewing

1.) You can either sew through the braid or under and over the braid. Its up to you. You do want to double stitch over the track 3-4 times to really secure the track though.

2.) Make sure that the weave track goes from the side of your hairline on one side of your head to the other. Don’t fall short.

3.) Once finished with one track begin sewing the next track a few inches above the first track. make sure to sew around and along the sides of the top “leave out” section of hair.

Finishing Touches

1.) Remove the temporary “leave out sections” from the front of your hair.

2.) Get your flat iron and start to straighten the front leave out sections so that the can blend back and into the weave.

3.) Then take out the top “leave out section” and create your part. Flat iron this section so that it lays over the weave and blends in. Style your part as usual. Proceed to style your weave as usual with curling irons or flat irons as long as the manufacturer says your black hair weaves can use styling tools.
